Beer & Berocca Shield

The Beer & Berocca Shield is a teams event played on the Sunday morning of the Golf Trip. The competition is played in pairs playing an Ambrose Competition. Teams are determined by pairing the lowest handicap player with the highest handicap player, the second lowest handicap with the second highest etc. The sum of both handicaps is divided by 4 to determine the pairs official Handicap. Ambrose is a stroke event.

Note: In the event that there is a group of 3x players then the sum of all handicaps is divided by 8 and if played in groups of 4x players the official handicap is calculated by dividing the sum of all handicaps by 16.

In an Ambrose competition each player drives from the tee and then the pair chooses the ball which is in the best position and then both play from that position. This process continues until the ball is finally put into the hole, so at all times each player has the opportunity to putt, chip, drive or approach the green to improve the position of the ball for their partner.

Under the rules of the game, each player must contribute at least 6x drives during the 18 hole round, other than that there is no restrictions on who’s ball is to be selected. The player who’s ball is selected must play the ball from where it lies, whereas their playing partner may place their ball within 1x club length from where the original ball was sitting. (a golf tee is used to identify the spot where the first ball was hit from) When putting the ball must be hit from within a hand span of where the first ball was putt from. When on the green the ball must always be marked by the first person to play, if they choose to putt out and put the ball in the hole then the score stands and the second player does not get the opportunity to putt and try to improve the score.
